so. in with the new news.

i'm driving across the country this summer with my lovely best buddy rachael.
and i can't even tell you how excited i am. i was planning to stay up in nyc this summer, but with me not being certain if i had a job, and this opportunity just springing up--i had to take it.

i don't have many things that i'm absolutely positively sure that i have to do before i die, but driving across the country is one. so. on may 9(ish) i'm flying out to los angeles and then we make our break--las vegas, flagstaff, grand canyon---wherever the road leads us. and that's all right by me.

i wish i had a video camera on this trip. i've got a big question to ask and i'd like to ask strangers and see what they say. we'll see what happens along the way.

One word.

Flagstaff.

Two words.

Go there.

If you can... try going into New Mexico, preferably Albuquerque. My favorite place I went to on the entire road trip was El Paso, Texas... I think Cormac McCarthy lives there now. There's this spot where there's this huge 40x40 foot star shining on top of this huge mountain at night. Drive up there in the early morning and you can watch the sun rise over Mexico and New Mexico. It's amazing... just look at my profile picture on Facebook.

I don't know where you're going to in CA, but if you've never been to San Francisco, it's one of my favorite towns I've ever been in. L.A. is dumb... I hated it... but could maybe like it if I spent more time in it.... it just felt claustrophobic.

Lake Tahoe is really great. The Grand Canyon can be cool, but you might wanna do what I didn't and actually go deep down inside and go rafting or hiking or something much more adventurous than just looking at it from where all the old people look at it.

Flagstaff, AZ. There's this one mountain that Ben and I hiked up. I think it was a 2 mile hike to the top and 2 miles down. There was this huge tower on top that we climbed all the way up. Then we went to this grocery store at the bottom and got some Gatorade. We went to this outdoor music thing where all these hippies congregated. I think everyone there is a hippie. All of the women remind me of Emmylou Harris. They all let their hair go gray. It's beautiful.

Las Vegas is stupid. Don't go there. It seriously sucks. If you're going through Texas, go to Austin. If in Austin, go to Waterloo Records. Also, go to the park where ACL takes place. "Keep Austin Weird" is their slogan... what could be better?

If you go through Colorado, go to Telluride. I went there about 10 years ago in my Grampa's 4 wheel driving excursion. Take Imogene Pass to Ouray and you'll go through this gold mining area. Near here somewhere is this lush field of flowers next to an effing sweet little river. Also, make sure to go to Bridal Veil Falls.

I could go on and on. But as you already know... my road trip with my brother only lasted 11 days. I totaled his car in an accident... about a hundred miles from L.A.... in San Luis Obispo.

Just comment back on this if you have any questions and it will go to my Email.
